Spring 2009
Greetings from Tony Kees

So
I'm on the bus coming back from New York
after a Chicago Fire Academy weekend
road trip. It's a 12 hour jaunt each
way. I'm staring out the window at the
passing scenery, mostly farms and flat
land. I'm just thinking and trying to
picture what it's going to be like at
Neuqua Valley, leading the boys soccer
program. At this point I can start to
think about the business at hand,
getting things in place. Because leading
up to my appointment, I could only ask
myself why in the world would I want to
run a
program again? I mean, guest-coaching,
which is what I did last fall, is a heck
of a lot of fun, without the day to day
responsibility of leading a program. Why
would I want to take on the workload,
the scheduling, the staffing, the
curriculum, the communication, the
setting of standards, the establishment
of core values and the daily culture of
“the way
we do things around here”?
The short answer is...because it's
Neuqua Valley! The long answer includes
the fact that I like to build things,
and I'm ready for a new challenge, etc.
I can't think of too many other places
where I would've gotten excited enough
to throw my hat in the ring and actually
apply for the job!
Neuqua Valley was appealing to me for a
number of reasons, not the least of
which was that expectations are high
here. That's invigorating!
More on that later, but I will share
with you right now that one of my main
goals is to
build a program with top to bottom
synergy, with a common thread running
through all
five of our teams. No team is an island.
As for the business at hand, I know
there has been a lot of anticipation for
the new
coach to get the summer stuff in place.
I can tell you that camp is set. I feel
that
attending this camp will be important in
that I can begin the process of building
a rapport
with the players and instilling our core
values.
As for summer league, I have not been a
big fan of it over the years. But if
there are
enough players and we have a volunteer
coach(s) and some folks who are willing
to
organize it, then I would not object to
it.
I'm sure there are questions about next
year's staff also. Coach Fitz, Coach
Gonzales
and Coach Geers will be returning! We
are in the process of replacing two
coaches
from last season. Levels will be
assigned upon the hiring of the two
other coaches.
That's it for now. Until the next
communique, stay tuned for info on “Open
Gym” and
an all player / parent meeting before
school's out.

The new Neuqua Boys Summer Soccer Camp will be designed first and
foremost for
MAXIMUM ENJOYMENT of the beautiful game!
We've got 10 camp days. Those days
will be filled with activities that will develop our culture, which
starts with discipline, work
and fun! We will start to get into our Core Values, those values
that we will hold above
everything else and live by. Soccer-wise you will be sharpening
skills that you already
possess, and also learning new skills to add to your game. We will
work on technique,
self expression and lots of concept games.
The camp can mean different things for different players. For
incoming freshman it's a
great way to meet future teammates and coaches and get acclimated to
Neuqua before
your first day of class. For veteran players the camp can serve as a
platform and solid
base for a successful fall season. But for everyone, it will be FUN!
I will do my best to get to know every player at camp and look
forward to meeting the
many different personalities, which invariably emerge at camp. It
will be a fun time for all
of us!
VACATION
If you are planning a family vacation during part of camp it is no
problem. Just tell
Coach Kees before you leave how long you will be gone.
OTHER SPORTS
If you are enrolled in another sports camp or activity and you have
a time conflict, we
would expect you to split the difference and either come every other
day or come a little
late or leave a little early, whichever the case may be.
Hope to see you at camp.
Regards,
Tony Kees
